Erik Brynjolfsson is an award-winning researcher, educator, inventor, entrepreneur, and author.
At MIT, he serves as the Director of the Center for Digital Business, the Schussel Family Professor, and the Chairman of the MIT Sloan Management Review. His research examines the effects of information technologies on business strategy and performance, Internet commerce and intangible assets.
Prof. Brynjolfsson’s research explores the productivity contributions of IT and the complementary role of organizational capital. He has also quantified the value of online product variety, known as the “Long Tail” and developed bundling models for information goods. His recent work uses fine-grained nanodata to understand digital information flows and their relationships to information worker productivity.
His research has been awarded 10 Best Paper Prizes and five patents. He has been called one of five e-business visionaries by Business Week and was rated of the top two most influential IT researchers in a poll of business executives. Prof. Brynjolfsson serves on the Academic Advisory Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, as well as the Boards of public and private companies.
Brynjolfsson holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from Harvard University and a PhD from MIT.
He has authored or co-edited several books including Wired for Innovation: How IT is Reshaping the Economy.
His forthcoming book is focused on productivity and employment in the digital economy.
