Teradata 14.0: Your Data, Straight-Up - Or Sideways

It's long been recognized in the industry that column-store database technology boosts performance and scalability for some analytical workloads, by reducing the volume of data that must to be accessed to answer a business question.

But most existing database management systems support either traditional, row storage mechanisms or column storage. That means that some queries are optimized - at the expense of all the others.

Not any more. Because the latest version of Teradata's industry-leading DBMS technology introduces the industry's most sophisticated hybrid row/column storage technology. Now you can chose to store your data row-wise, column-wise - or in a hybrid arrangement - so that you can organize your data to maximize performance and scalability for all of your workloads. Best of all, Teradata Columnar is completely integrated with the rest of the DBMS, so that you can seamlessly join row-oriented and column-oriented data and manage the demands of competing mixed-workloads.

Teradata 2690: Automated Compression, Break-Through Performance

The latest version of the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance - the 2690, announced at Partners and available early in 2012 - features integrated hardware compression engines, to seamlessly and automatically apply block-level compression of data.

That means that less data are moved to answer complex queries - and that more data are cached in memory for longer. That all adds-up to break-through performance, with up to 2x faster query processing than the industry's leading analytic database Appliance, the Teradata 2650. It also means that 2690-based systems will consume up to 60% less energy and 50% less floor space than 2650-based systems for equivalent levels of performance.

"Teradata is the first to efficiently deploy block-level compression without impacting our customers’ performance, and we automated the entire process, making it effortless for customers. This unmatched advancement makes the Teradata appliance even easier to use," said Ed White – general manager, Teradata Appliances, Teradata Corporation.

Teradata Unity: Enabling the Analytical Ecosystem

The Teradata Platform Family enables organizations to optimize price-performance, whatever their requirements. Need to integrate data from across the enterprise, to provide your users with any question, any time flexibility?

Need a redundant second-system in a faraway data centre to protect you against the unexpected? Need to cost-effectively store and process large volumes of cool, historical data? Need to spin-off an analytical data mart? Need to know now? Need all of the above? We've got you covered.

And now, synchronizing and leveraging your multiple analytical platforms has never been simpler, because the SQL Multi-Cast and Advanced Query Routing technologies in the all-new Teradata Unity product enable you to seamlessly apply updates to all of your Teradata systems so that they stay in sync - and to route queries to whichever Teradata system has the data needed to answer them, or to maximize system utilization and performance where the data is stored in more than one system. We think it's the biggest thing to happen in analytic database middleware in years - and it's available now.

Aster Data

TERADATA ASTER MAPREDUCE APPLIANCE

PRESS RELEASE

Aster Data: Optimized for MapReduce; Speaks SQL; Enterprise Ready

Massively Parallel SQL Database technology has transformed the way that businesses do business, by enabling organizations to store, integrate and query vast volumes of detailed data to understand what happened, what is happening - and what needs to be done about it.

Now new types of data and new types of Analytics are emerging, which promise to be just as transformative. But how to harness them to drive business value?

Introducing Aster Data. Like Teradata, it's a massively parallel database management system. And like Teradata, it was designed from the ground-up for Analytics.

Unlike Teradata, Aster Data is built on a polymorphic file system. In plain English, that means that it can store complex, non-relational objects natively. And thanks to it's patented SQL-MapReduce interface, it brings all the power of MapReduce to bear on objects simple and complex, only without the complexity normally associated with MapReduce.

Now Aster Data Version 5.0 introduces support for even more complex analytic functions - and the new Aster Data appliance makes deploying robust, fault tolerant, scalable and high-performance MapReduce processing into your organization a snap. If all of that wasn't already enough, the new Teradata - Aster connector means that you can move data seamlessly between Aster Data and Teradata, so that, for example, relational meta-data derived from Analytics on complex objects can be integrated with the data that you already store and manage in Teradata - and analytic models that you build in Aster Data can be enhanced and extended with that same data.

It's MapReduce, only simpler to deploy, manage and leverage.
