This year's Teradata Technology Factory features 5 tracks, each one packed with 12 hours of in-depth technical education and interactive discussion. Individual sessions range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on the topics to be covered. We have also added presentations on the same topics to multiple tracks - covering them from different viewpoints, based on various audience roles. Check out these overviews and then refer to the detailed programme for the track which is right for YOU.
Teradata Beginner
This educational track is designed for people who are new to the Teradata environment, providing the audience with an in-depth introduction to the basic features of a Teradata warehouse. We will also cover Teradata Tools and Utilities, with guidelines on how to use and apply them as your data warehouse grows.
Embedded in this three-day track is the complete introductory course of the Teradata Certified Professional Programme, delivered by our global expert, Alison Torres. Completing this course is your first step towards Teradata Certification, and you will receive details on how to register for the exam as a follow-up to your course completion.
Beyond the Teradata Database, Tools and Utilities, participants will also gain an understanding of basic Teradata DBA activities and receive tips on Teradata workload management. Finally, Stephen Brobst, the CTO of Teradata, will discuss the pros and cons of different data modeling techniques.
Solution Architect – Data Warehouse Vision
This track is primarily devoted to Solution Architects who focus on the data warehouse itself – building a high-performance Teradata system, tuning it to the needs of the organisation, and leveraging Teradata features or partner tools to maximise your return on investment.
Track participants will explore the application of new technologies, as well as review the latest perspectives on more established subjects – with a balanced mixture of theory and customer best practices. For example, there will be a special focus on systems management, including Teradata Viewpoint – the next generation of Teradata Management software, featuring a brand new look and feel – plus customer testimonials on the usage of TASM.
We will also cover Active Data Warehousing case studies and best practices, provide a roadmap to Dual Active, and host an in-depth discussion on the most exciting features of Teradata 12.0. An additional highlight will be a tutorial on Cost Based Optimisation for complex queries from Stephen Brobst, Teradata’s CTO.
Solution Architect – Enterprise Vision
If you are a Solution Architect who is focused on the integration of your data warehouse into your organisation’s enterprise, then this track is for you. Participants will examine approaches, technologies and techniques which will enable them to design data warehousing and analytical solutions aligned both with short-term and longterm business objectives, as well as overall IT strategies.
Teradata gurus Stephen Brobst, Todd Walter and Scott Gnau will put their knowledge to the test in a special panel discussion, where YOU can challenge them with YOUR questions regarding Enterprise Integration and the Teradata Reference Architecture. They will also offer their insights in detailed sessions on Enterprise Information Management, the advantages of migrating to LINUX for your Teradata environment and weighing the benefits versus pitfalls of an ODS environment.
In addition, Teradata experts, customers and partners will also share best practices for building an ADW Architecture, applying techniques of a Service Oriented Architecture, leveraging Teradata tools such as the EDW Roadmap, Logical Data Models and Data Warehouse Maturity Assessment, plus tackling issues such as Master Data Management, Data Model Integration and Enterprise Data Security.
Advanced Analytics Expert
This track is devoted to Advanced Analytics, particularly in the area of Customer Management. Teradata, our customers and our partners will present case studies of business successes achieved through analytical projects as diverse as Churn Prediction Modeling to Early Warning and Quality Assurance. In addition, experts from Teradata and SAS will provide detailed information with regard to our joint solutions for indatabase analytics.
Stephen Brobst, Teradata’s CTO, will share his views on “EXtreme Data Warehousing” – acknowledged throughout the industry as true out-of-the-box thinking for advanced analytics and BI applications. We will also explore some of the latest trends in the area of text mining (emails and click-stream data), with views on integrating these unstructured data types into your analytics environment. And, we’ll cover best practices for application performance tuning and an in-depth case study of a joint Teradata/ Microsoft integration project.
The final day of our analytics track will be entirely dedicated to Analytical CRM with an update on Teradata Relationship Manager – complete with customer testimonials for the latest generation of our product and customer cases which prove the value-add of integrating TRM with partner solutions.
Data Warehouse Expert
Organisations continue to demand that IT people achieve better results and deliver new services with static or even reduced operational budgets. At the same time, data volumes continue to explode and warehouse administrators are increasingly asked to store and manage new and novel forms of data.
In this track, Data Warehousing Project Managers and BI Consultants will find recommendations (as well as some answers!) to the issues and priorities they face every working day. How do I resolve Data Quality challenges? Are there “best practices” for managing Data Integration projects with new data types or additional subject areas? How do I schedule day-to-day Systems Management tasks, while ensuring overall service levels are met? What about Compliance and Governance?
These are just some of the topics that will be covered, in addition to in-depth discussions for optimising your system performance with existing features like Stored Procedures and exciting new developments offered in Teradata 12.0 and Teradata Viewpoint. We will discuss – and debate – various strategies and best practices, sharing a wealth of customer experiences in both data warehousing implementation and management, while providing real-world lessons learned.
